Growing up in a non-religious family, I was instructed that “all good will come from those who try”; I didn’t believe in fate, destiny, or any superior being. Indeed, this was a beneficial concept at a young age because it instilled in my a growth-mindset (for more information check out Carol Dweck), motivating me to constantly seek challenge and exert maximum effort in all my endeavors.
However, as I matured, I had to face barriers and failures unparalleled to anything I had seen. It began with little things in everyday life, but manifested to my entire career and schooling by my teen years. For the first time, I saw how I could put in my best effort, yet not yield the results I so desperately desired. My goals and achievements never seemed to be in line anymore.
The initially realization shook me, leaving me feeling worthless and helpless, but overtime, I began to have faith. I tried to alleviate my stress by placing some of the doubt and anxiety towards my performance reports on a superior being. I reminded myself that so long as I worked hard and obeyed a life of self-discipline and remained studious, I could reach for my dreams because God will support me because he would see the work I had done. Knowing that God would be there calms me now before every test, exam, and family crisis. Most importantly, it taught me to let go, sometimes we can’t get everything they want because God can’t promise everyone all their desires or else they will never see failure and will never learn.

“If God takes something away form you, he is emptying your hands to give you something better.” Live life and have faith.
