1. Choose inspiration quotes for your mantra. Post them everywhere: on your laptop, on your desk, and on your tablet.
2. Record all the moments of happiness and joy. Store them in a box where you can find them when you are angry or sad.
3. All changes take time. Don’t measure progress for large goals like weight loss or grade improvement day-by-day. Try week-by-week, you so can actually see improvement and become more motivated.
4. Forgive and Forget. This maybe hard for some, but it should be an ideal that the human species should work towards. Arguments are about an action, not a person, so holding a grudge against that person would be futile.
5. Wake up, and talk to your mirror. This may seem psychotic for some, but tell yourself that you are beautiful, that you are confident, that you are smart. If you do this sufficiently, your mind will be trained to believe it and be more motivated to make that goal into reality.
6. Have fantasies. When you are out on that walk, run, bike ride, or ski trip. Let your mind wander. Fantasize about the future about what you would do after achieving your New Year’s resolution.
7. Split your large goal into tiny goals. e.g. If you want to lose 80 pounds try 3 pounds at a time, or 5 if counting isn’t your forte, like me!
